skill fabrication and fantasy cosplay has changed a lot in the last 35 long time . Back in the tardy seventies , there were n’t very many rules , if any . And there certainly was nothing like a disjoined costuming fandom . There were also an awful lot of au naturel people ( which eventually leave in the only rule I ever call back seeing posted : “ No costume is no costume ” ) , making reliable Edgar Rice Burroughs characters reasonably popular subjects .
Here are a few pick examples of seventies cosplay , from my personal pic collecting . word of advice : Many of these are NSFW .
One matter I noticed in going through the playground slide — mostly call for at Worldcon masquerades and a few other cons — is the great sense of whimsy that permeated SF costuming decennium ago . This is something that seems to be missing , now that costuming is taken so much more badly .

I recognize a lot pros in some of those old picture , too — such as Elfquest God Almighty Wendy Pini as one of her own persona .
Oh yeah — I think another linguistic rule . Food was nixed for costumes after one joker covered himself solely in monkey nut butter ( he was a turd literally and figuratively ) , which finally turn rancid after 3 or 4 hours under spicy illumination . Oh yes , indeedy , those were the days …
