The hearsay about the X-37B have been build for a few long time now , ever since the project came under the aegis of the Department of Defense — and became classified — in 2004 . Is it for intelligence service assemblage ? Will it be weaponize ? Or is it nothing more than orbital pitch motortruck ? From the Air Force ’s prescribed description of the plan :

“ A flexible space test political platform to convey various experimentation and permit planet sensing element , subsystems , components and associated engineering to be expeditiously enrapture to and from the infinite environment . This service now supports the Defense Department ’s technology risk of exposure - step-down efforts for new satellite systems . By put up an ‘ on - eye socket research laboratory ’ test environment , it will show new engineering and portion before those technologies are committed to operating satellite program . ”
Which is not solely helpful .
The X37B , co - developed by Boeing , is just 29 feet long and can appease in orbit for up to nine month , so it could be some time before we see it again . For now , the independent objective seems to be if the Air Force can successfully think it in sound enough consideration to re - use . And , you know , to test out the antimatter ray . [ Wired ]
