Apple ’s News app hasofficially launchedin the US , with trial in the UK and Australia . But if you ’re an American move around to China , do n’t plan on accessing the app from your headphone . Apple itself is reportedly blocking itfrom cargo newsin the nation .
Users who visit mainland China just get a “ ca n’t refreshen right now ” message on the app :

Apple has the pick of simply censoring the app , as many other company do to appease China ’s censorship regime . But so far Apple has n’t gone that route , and will in all probability step softly for one very good understanding : China is now the troupe ’s secondly great market .
From theNew York Times :

Greater China is now Apple ’s second - largest origin of tax revenue after the United States , with sale of more than $ 13 billion in the third twenty-five percent . That means the company is most likely taking a thrifty coming to deliver new subject , like that on its news show app , within China .
There has been , of course of action , much debate about what kind of censoring American companies apply in countries with draconian delivery law of nature . But the real test of Apple ’s delicate dance with Taiwanese censors will come when Apple News launches in China — should that day ever come .
