Apple ’s upcoming coiffe - top boxes will stomach third - party controllers for play , which is good news for anyone ( everyone ) who does n’t like stake with a touchpad . But that still does n’t intend you should expect hard-core game from your Apple TV .
In the App Programming Guide for tvOS , Apple outline requirements for game developer — admit , unfortunately , a requirement that all game work with the Siri Remote :
Your game must patronise the Apple TV remote . Your plot may not expect the use of a controller

tvOS game that support controller must patronize the extended control layout . All controller for tvOS are nonformfitting lead controllers
Games must be playable using standalone restrainer . If you support an extended control , the game must be playable solely with that comptroller .
The insurance policy is understandable : Apple does n’t want the great unwashed downloading games that they then ca n’t act , because they do n’t have the right controller . But as , it ’s limiting if every plot has to be governable with a touchpad .
