Joe was nice enough to walk us through the creative process for the cover graphics of the first Infinite Comic . Here are his bill for each stage . chatter “ Expand ” in the bottom right recess of each image for a eminent resolve , uncropped interlingual rendition .
This image record how I made sure that the fuzzy space backgrounds play well one into the next as well as the forward-moving apparent movement and twist of the grapheme in space .
Now after all the prelim oeuvre is done , it ’s meter to get to the real work , DRAWING ! Here ’s a very loose gesture drawing the first Nova panel scribbled in Photoshop .
Now in Sketchbook , my favorite pull app , I crop my room to final pencil . Keep in psyche that for expedience sake , I ’m skipping over several steps that get me to this crocked pencil stage . Trust me , I ’m saving from the boring stuff .
Here are the finished inks done in Photoshop . When you ink , do not , I repeat , DO NOT employ the brush putz , expend the pencil . The brush will give you a indulgent line that will look horrible in print . Also , when inking in Photoshop it ’ll come along as though some of the lines are pixilated , but they will shine out in mark as long as you are ink at a decent resolution . I usually ink at 600 dpi and then reduce it down to 400 for print purpose .
Here ’s my loose gesture drawing for the next panel . Let me just say it out loud , Nova ’s helmet is a beef to draw . My hard campaign is litter with reject versions of the helmet .
talk of tough to draw , some years are green days and the pencil ca n’t be stop , anything you need to draw seems to follow to you magically . It ’s like a baseball game player when he ’s on a hot run . And then there are days when nothing seems to be working . I do n’t care if your Leonardo da Vinci or , John Romita , Jr. , everyone has a spoiled day ( actually I ’ll depend JR JR never had ) . On the day I was drawing this panel I was struggling to get the sleeve just right . That ’s when I resort to the artist ’s best friend , photo reference * . Thanks to my close iSight Camera I just snap a agile pick of my flabby subdivision and away we go .

Final inks . For those wondering , because I was under tremendous dealings press , to nail the orbitual graphics on Nova ’s costume , I but built the circle in Photoshop and then edited them in TRANSFORM using the EDIT pecker . Ahhh who am I kid , even without the deadline I would have done it this way .
This angle was a vast nuisance to draw . to nab it I took a picture of myself laying on the floor . While my legs are sexy as hell , the relaxation of me is too out of bod to show the photo . Sorry nipper , I ca n’t demystify everything .
Final inks , for the speed tune I used Manga Studio EX4 , they have a great perspective tool designed just for these occasions .
in the end the pencils for the Phoenix . Let me add together that this may very well be the first time anyone has drawn the Phoenix from the underside and while I cogitate of it , I deflect drawing its junk .
