Think of heat and battery , and you probably imagine a lithium - on mobile phone bursting into fire . But now researchers think that a fiddling heat at the right time could in reality be used to extend the lifespan of a barrage fire .
During the round of charing and discharging , li - on batteries lento degrade . The researchers have investigate how the process works , and found that the temperature rises cause the atoms in the atomic number 3 dendrite to re - club into a more compact form . So it ’s not that they get smaller in volume condition , but their reach shortens — which is enough to relieve battery headaches . The research is publish in theJournal of Chemical Physics .
