Unless you ’ve been living under a bonsai tree diagram , you probably know that Cobra Kai is the score Netflix ( formerly YouTube ) show thatcontinues the floor told in The Karate Kid movies . Jehovah Jon Hurwitz , Hayden Schlossberg , and Josh Heald have led a stellar show that discover how Daniel LaRusso ( Ralph Macchio ) and Johnny Lawrence ( William Zabka ) have do in the years since the original plastic film , along with a whole new cast of karate fry , including Daniel ’s daughter Sam ( Mary Mouser ) , Johnny ’s son Robbie ( Tanner Buchanan ) , and many others .
Season threeended with a huge ultimatum . As Cobra Kai ’s original sensei John Kreese ( Martin Kove ) began to get more pupil to his side , longtime rivals Johnny and Daniel decide to team up , along with their feuding karate dojos . A mass was made : the succeeder of the All Valley Karate Tournament can stay in commercial enterprise , the failure must quit . And for a little extra assistance , Kreese called in Terry Silver , the scoundrel from The Karate Kid Part III , played by Thomas Ian Griffin .

“ We had a fairly clean gumption of where we were head [ going into time of year four ] , ” Jon Hurwitz told io9 over video call . “ We knew that season four was going to be this battle with Johnny and Daniel trying to work together and see how that ’s going to turn out . And on the other side , with Kreese , we bang that he was going to be bringing in Terry Silver , and we bed the case of journeying we wanted . We may not have have intercourse all the details of how the season was run low to stop specifically , but the build of the time of year was it was certainly , firmly in our heads . And , some of the matchups in the [ climactic All Valley ] tournament , we knew , but some were discovered along the way . ”
One of the most welcome surprises break down into time of year four — and it ’s one that fans have been clamoring for — is the dilate role of Anthony LaRusso , play by Griffin Santopietro . For three time of year , the tarradiddle has largely followed his older sister Sam , all but discount the fact that Daniel also has a boy . That changes this year , with a forward-looking twist .
“ Anthony has been conceal in plain sight since time of year one , ” Josh Heald said . “ We always talked about the the playfulness of Daniel kind of unintentionally enkindle this kid who is a small bit , probably , how Johnny grew up . feature too many toy , too much access to things , [ and not being able to ] figure out his own societal moral force . And as Anthony has grow up , we always knew it would be fun to experience what is his societal life like ? Who is he hang out with ? He ’s not a tough kid , but middle school is that time where kids can be real pieces of garbage if you go out them unchecked . It ’s a rough time for any kid to see out themselves , and peer pressure is never a liberal thing than when you ’re that geezerhood . And having this Thomas Kid who ’s been spending his entire series on iPads and PlayStations and machine , it mat very natural that that he could fall into something akin to cyberbullying . ”

We wo n’t cocker exactly what Heald entail by that , but you ’ll find out very early in the season . And after that ’s bring out , opportunity are most devotee will probably cease Cobra Kai time of year four rather quickly , since Netflix is releasing the entire 10 instalment serial at once . That means public lecture will invitably work to season five , which has not only been greenlit , but is well into output . However , Hurwitz admitted the next season after this one will not have as absolved a roadmap as the show did move from season three to four .
“ As we ended season four , we had a sensory faculty of what season five would be . But you know , it was a little number more of a vacuous canvas in certain ways , ” Hurwitz said . “ Partly because we promptly got into season five . It was one of those things where we were n’t expecting to be writing it this shortly , but we were already in that Cobra Kai headspace . We had just written a time of year , film a time of year , we were in the thick of editing as we started spell again . Our squad of writers , we were all sort of in it . ”
“ So it ’s not like we did n’t know where [ season five ] was headed in certain ways , but certainly less had been figured out , ” he go on . “ But it ’s been a playfulness adventure clear time of year five on the hound of season four and just living in it . Just being in this zone for such a long stretch has been tickle pink and full of fun surprises . ”
