The Hyperloop is not real . But that wo n’t prevent it from being taught at institutions of higher acquisition . Now Purdue University is offering a Hyperloop Design course through its three technology programs . The first class was yesterday and apparently 54 bookman read up .
The path is being offered at an interesting time in Hyperloop ’s development . sooner this summer , Elon Musk announced he would build a test track and legion adesign competitionfor the Hyperloop ’s pods . Then , last calendar week , the inauguration that ’s kind of run with Musk ’s original thought , Hyperloop Transportation Technologies , announced it’sbuilding its own test racecourse , with a prospicient list of partners admit transportation engineers at AECOM .
This also is n’t the first time the Hyperloop has been the issue of academic preaching . Students at UCLA tackled the Hyperloop last semester aspart of an architecture studio , generating some of the first ( fanciful ) image of what the tubular transit system might seem like . But it sounds like Purdue ’s class is center in on Musk ’s pod - focused intention contender :

Looking more nearly at the rules , it seems like Musk ’s competition was tailored to concur with school calendars : The deadline to register is 9/15 and the final submission is 12/15 . I ’m actually surprised now that we are n’t see more of these Hyperloop classes , although some prof may simply be hold it as an naming as part of their existing courses . I also found some grounds thatschools like the University of Illinois are put together teamsto compete , if not offer classes instantaneously . Update : Texas A&M also has a course .
Here are all the details . Perhaps they ’re taking late - ADD should you find yourself enroll at Purdue for the 2015 - 2016 academic year .
