If you ’re reading Gizmodo decently now , chances are you may be skipping the Oscars this year . I know I am . I did n’t see enough of the movies nominate to care . So why not usher in the week with some mid-’90 ’s perfection ?
Flirting With Disaster is great on every level . Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette have just had a Word , but Ben was adopt and does n’t want to name the baby until he learns about his roots . Hilarity ensues . But not stupid hilarity — really voguish , sexy , well written gleefulness . The plot is always driving forwards , the dialog is marvelous , and the soundtrack is really great . The best part , though , is the cast . It ’s an air - tight funniness A - team : Ben Stiller , Patricia Arquette , Téa Leoni , Alan Alda , Mary Tyler Moore , George Segal , Lily Tomlin , Josh Brolin , and Richard Jenkins . They ’re all fantastic .
It ’s got a genuine indie - picture vibe and it kind of fell under the radar when it first occur out in 1996 , but it has cement a spot for itself in my Top Ten from that decade . possibly even Top Five . It ’s only 93 minutes , so you could still get raft of eternal sleep before Monday rears its ugly head . Everyone I ’ve ever showed it to ( and that ’s a lot of multitude now ) has loved it , and now I ’m bear witness it to you . I desire you get laid it , too . [ Netflix Instant ]
