A woman out to get a meal at a Louisiana Taco Bell is lucky to be alive after a massive sign at thefast food restauranttoppled onto her car during recent severe weather.
Last week, a woman was waiting in a Crowley, Louisiana,Taco Bell drive-thruline when extreme winds blew over the sign. The pole crushed her Kia sedan — narrowly missing the driver, who was alone at the time.
“Crowley PD would like to inform everyone due to the storm that just passed through, please be cautious of down power lines and blocked road ways. If you see emergency personnel vehicles please avoid that area,” Crowley Police Chief Troy Hebert wrote in a Sept. 8 Facebook post.
“There is report of one injury at this time,” the post added with several photos of local damage. One of the images was of a large pole that had been knocked overin a parking lotand another showed signage spread across the ground at a Taco Bell.
The woman’s identity has not been publicly released, but additional photos and videos show her entire backseat completely caved in due to the weight of the franchise’s sign.
“EMTs were on [site] pretty quick,” Acadia Parish superintendent Scott Richard said, according toKLFY-10.
“The individual was taken out of the car very carefully and miraculously she was not injured more than what her injuries were,” Richard said. “As you can tell if you do some closeups of wherethe sign actually fell, no one else was injured because it’s a pretty big sign, [a] very high sign. We’re just thankful nobody got seriously injured.”
The woman’s daughter, Madyson Dailey, spoke with ABC affiliateKATC-3about her mother’s harrowing ordeal.
“She looked up and saw the sign wobbling and within seconds later [it] was in her backseat,” Dailey said on Sept. 9.
“She called and said her head was bleeding,” Dailey continued. “She was stuck in her car, and that a pole fell into her car. She has a minor gash in her head which led to her getting staples but other than that she will be fine.”

She revealed that just before the Taco Bell sign flattened the back seat of the vehicle, her mother was on the way to pick up her siblings from school but stopped to get them some food.
“Thank God she doesn’t have major injuries, just minor and she made it out alive,” her daughter added.
Dailey also offered up a suggestion for others who may be traveling during severe weather.
“Honestly, the best bet is to just not get on the roads if you don’t have to,” she said.
Earlier this year, a similar situation at a fast food restaurant ended with a fatality.
“I am able to say with certainty the wind was a factor. Very, very sad situation,” Elizabethtown police spokesperson Chris Denhatold NBC News.
“Denny’s is aware of the incident that took place at our Elizabethtown location on Thursday,” a Denny’s spokesperson told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. “Safety is our top priority, and we are working with the authorities to better understand what led to this situation. Our thoughts are with all of those involved.”
