Robert De NiroandTiffany Chenattended the2023 Gotham Awardstogether Monday night.
De Niro and Chen sat with De Niro’s costarLily Gladstoneinside the event. De Niro, 80, gave aspeechto present a tribute to the movie on behalf of its cast, during which he claimed someone had edited out a portion of hisspeech that criticized former President Donald Trumpwithout De Niro’s permission and removed it from the teleprompter. He read his unedited speech from his phone.
“I just want to say one thing: The beginning of my speech was edited, cut out. I didn’t know about it. And I want to read it," De Niro said during his appearance on stage.
He suggested event organizers and Apple, the studio that producedKillers of the Flower Moon, were responsible for cutting parts of his speech. (Reps for the Gotham Awards and Apple did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.)
“So I’m going to say these things, but to Apple, and thank them and all that, Gotham, blah, blah, blah, Apple — I don’t feel like thanking them at all for what they did,” he said. “How dare they do that, actually, but now I will go to accepting the award forKillers of the Flower Moon.”

Both De Niro and Chen testified to their relationships with Robinson, 41, during her time working for De Niro and Canal Productions years after both sides filed lawsuits against one another after Robinson’s resignation in 2019.
De Niro and Canal Productions alleged that Robinson abused her position to inappropriately use “her employer’s fund for her personal gain." Robinsonsued De Niro and Canal Productionsfor alleged violations of the New York City Human Rights Law, and accused theOscarwinner of gender discrimination and retaliation.
On Nov. 9, a jury in New York City federal court found De Niro not personally liable, though his company Canal Productions wasfound liable for gender discrimination and retaliationagainst Robinson. The jury ordered Canal to pay $1.26 million in damages to Robinson.

De Niro and Chen first met while working together on the 2015 movieThe Intern. They sparked romance rumors when they were spottedholding hands while vacationingin the South of France.
